Blue Chest on Chest Dresser

I was introduced to Pinterest by my daughter and was in heaven.  I was having fun seeing what other people did for fun, and it was a wonderful new world to explore.  I seemed to zero in on how people were painting old dented and scratched furniture into beautiful awesome furniture.  I came across this beautiful blue dresser at Heartwood Roses  and decided I wanted to try to do this.  I found a local Annie Sloan Chalk Paint stockist and bought the chalk paint that I had read so much about.  I went to my local salvation army and found this well made chest on chest.  It was half price furniture day and I quickly snapped it up for around 50.00.  I have no idea if that was a good price or not but I was excited to try this chalk paint on something.   These are some before pictures of my first attempt at painting furniture with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.

I had never stripped anything before and had trouble with the stripper drying too quickly.  I didn’t have a heat gun like Connie and being a newby I thought I might should take another route.  I would not recommend what I used.  I have since found a better and much easier stripper.

The instructions given on the Heartwood Roses  blog were excellent and I had no trouble following along.  Mine didn’t turn out quite as beautiful as Connie’s but I loved the results and that is all that mattered.

After stripping the top, here is what I used to complete the rest of the project.

I pretty much followed Connie’s instructions exactly so I will not go into the details of what I did here.  I will just post a few pictures of the process.  Remember,  I am a newby and the pictures are only taken with an iphone 4s, with not much thought behind lighting.  Connie’s pictures are awesome.

Here is the finished dresser

I am hooked now, so I am off to find more furniture to paint!
